Dear Bruce, I have been reading the email below concerning Beth Kissel doing
research and it is bringing back memories my family is, even now, trying to
resolve. I paid a professional researcher to do some research for me in
Ireland and, at first, we were so happy to receive the information that we
paid and accepted it to be true. I even sent her report out to Glass descendants
who
had petitioned me for information - one was Mike Glass @gulftel.com.
Then we ran into some descrepancies regarding some crucial dates. One
of the descrepancies had to do with the age of Samuel Glass, the emigrant,
which didn't match date of departure with his age. The following is what I
put on his "notes" page in order to explain it,
"Jan 11, 1998
Research done by Diana Hanson, Irish Researcher, states "Samuel Glass,
born about 1680 in Banbridge, County Down, Ireland, Emigrated 4 June
1734, age 59 from Drogheda, Ireland for America died in Winchester,
Frederick, VA" I deducted that if he emigrated at age 59, that would put the
date he settled here in America at 1739. When I questioned her about this,
she said it could be a mistake of one kind or another and that age 54 would
be what she would accept and so I did, too." So she essentially disputed
her own reference information that she had supposedly researched. but now, my
sister and I are
wondering if her references are fraudulent since one of her references(on
our Daniel side of the family) gave us a different "last" name than what we
originally had and other family members say they don't think she is right. I
did try to contact Diane to ask about references and copies, but she was no
where to be found by then. At one point, I became so desperate to locate
her that I asked the "newspaper group on genealogy" if anyone knew where
she could be reached (I could no longer contact her at her old email
address). I received an answer from one of them, I wrote her there, and
was told she would get back with me, but she never did. I discussed it with
my sister, Oleta, and we decided that, since she had cancer - (she had told
me this in an earlier email) that we would not bother her further. We have
been so frustrated over this and have been trying to decide how to handle it
in notifying other Glass descendants it may have affected. Below is a copy,
verbatim, of the report she sent to me over the net - nothing has been
changed from what she reported to me: Any comments would be
appreciated after reading her report: Thank you. Hazel Sluga

I spent a total of five hours at $30. And although there are other records I
could have spent time on, they can be ordered through the FHC and cost
you much less to have me search here, than in Ireland. I didn't want to
spend too much time without talking to you more. Those records still to be
searched are:

1642 Muster Roll of County Down SLC 897012
1660 Poll Tax Extracts 993164
1663 Subsidy Roll - SLC 1279356

Hope it helps!
