In 1871 they went west at the behest of a friend “Henry Hospers of Pella, IA” (from William Oelrich diary) to Orange City, Iowa. There they staked a claim 3 ½ miles north of Orange City near a ford for a creek and established Pleasant View Sheep Farm aka The Oelrich Farm as it was still known in 1920. |
